Some Frequently Asked Questions About Tesla Car Chargers
Does my Tesla come with a home charger?
The answer is yes and no. Every Tesla does come with a mobile level 1 or tier 1 charger. This is a simple cord that can be plugged into a standard 120 volt outlet. The downside to this system is that it takes a lot longer to charge your vehicle. We recommend purchasing and installing a Tesla Wall Connector or a level 2 charger. This will charge your vehicle in much less time and will be a more convenient solution.
How fast will a Tesla home charger recharge my car’s battery?
That can depend on a few things but generally a Level 2 Tesla home charger will provide about 45-50 miles of drive distance per hour of charging. There are other factors that can affect your charge rate. These include which specific model of Tesla you own and the actual electrical output of your home’s breaker panel. Some homes may need a service upgrade or a panel upgrade to get the most out of their Tesla wall charging unit.
How Much Does It Cost To Install A Tesla Car Charger?
That's a tough question to answer without knowing the specifics about your home or buildings electrical system. For a short answer it's likely going to cost somewhere between $1700 to $5000 for the charging unit, hardware, and the labor for installation. There are however, many factors that can affect the cost.
- Does your current electrical panel have the capacity needed?
- Do you need new runs of wiring installed?
- Do you need to increase the service amperage of your breaker panel?
The cost of the Tesla wall charging unit itself and the hardware are generally a fixed cost but it's the labor to install the charger where you want it, and any upgrades that might need to be completed on your electrical system that are currently unknown.
